Moving Matters

The Pacific North West in summer is a beautiful place.  It has been a full on summers day and Sarah and I got out on our mountain bikes for a short ride the local farmers market after taking the dogs for an early walk before it got to hot.

So let's talk about moving

Moving is one of those things that we just take for granted. I sure didn't think about it outside of activities like going to the Gym or Cycling.  But one of the things that I came to realize was just how little I was actually moving.  Especially during a work day in the office.  I started to watch others around me and noticed that the children run everywhere, then as we age and get sensible we also get sedate.  This is compounded by a lifestyle where we drive everywhere and park as close to the destination as possible.

I hate to state the obvious but our bodies are designed to move and to ensure we keep everything running smoothly, in today's world we have to make a conscious choices to ensure we break out of a sedentary way of life.

It is normal everyday movement that is important and not just the intense planned sessions of whatever you want to do for 30 - 60 minutes.  So I encourage you to make simple changes such as go for a walk (1 - 2 miles) in the morning and or evening.  Park at the other end of the car park and walk to wherever it is you are going.  Let's face it the parking is easier there anyway.  Ride your bike to work or to the shops if you can, garden a little or a lot, clean out the garage (mine sure needed it), but be conscious of how much you move and take steps literally to improve your health and well being.

Here is Sarah saying hi on our ride to the farmers market

Tomorrow I will share some of the tools I use to stay moving.

  1. Although I run most everyday it is definitely the other movement that counts. I could run and then sit on my toosh all day long but that would do no good.
Went to a crossfit orientation this morning and they gave out a really strict food plan. Should be interesting.
    Enjoy your day.

  2. lol, that is exactly where I was. I have never tried cross fit but I hear good things. I understand it originated out of the Paleo movement. Good luck and I look forward to hearing about the training and the diet.
